According to the Government of India, a student visa is meant for students who wish to study in an Indian institute or university.

Such student visas are issued for the duration of the academic course or for a period of five years (whichever is less). These can only be granted based on letters of admission from universities or recognized educational institutions in India.

Children of NRIs and PIOs cardholders need not procure a student visa. Other international students need student visas or research visas for Doctoral-level courses.

Eligibility for Student Visa

If you are applying on a scholarship issued by the Government of India, the respective Indian Missions is advised by the ICCR to issue a regular student visa after your enrolment is confirmed.

However, if you are applying as a self-financing student, you need to produce letters of admission from the university.

If you are applying as a research student, synopsis of the research project countersigned by the sponsoring institution in India along with letter of approval and a No Objection Certificate from the concerned Ministries in India should be acquired and submitted.

Note: Processing of applications for research may take up to three months.

Visit the Government of India website for complete information about how to apply for an Indian visa.

Living & Studying in Pune

Pune is the second largest city in the state of Maharashtra and is less than 100 miles away from the media centre and bustling capital city of Mumbai. It is also known as ‘Oxford of the East’ due to the number and variety of higher educational institutions that have a stellar standing among colleges and universities nationwide. Over the past few decades, Pune has become a melting pot of cultures from various parts of India and many other countries due to a growing presence of students enrolling in a variety of courses, ranging from arts and science to media, animation and information technology, just to name a few.

Pune’s appeal for those seeking higher education really lies in the student-friendly ambience it exudes.Colleges offer a host of degree courses, along with strong teaching faculty to guide students.

International students can find information and help they need with not just international admission centres at their colleges, but also with the helpful (and huge) student community here. Outstation and foreign students can find a place to stay in in a hassle-free manner in the hostel facilities available at colleges or in the large variety of apartments that are part of the growing real estate business here.

The city is home to thriving restaurants and cafés, and regularly hosts delightful musical and cultural events around the year. For those who love sight-seeing, there are scenic getaways and places of historic interest like forts and museums nearby that are a window to the rich past of this city.

‘The Garden City’; ‘Silicon Valley of India’; ‘hottest destination for students and professionals’ – the city of Bengaluru goes by many such befitting descriptions and names that ensure its reputation precedes it. The capital of the southern state of Karnataka is home to well over 8 million people. Earlier known as Bangalore, it is particularly popular among students who have finished high school and are eager to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate courses or other forms of higher education.

Among the top reasons for Bengaluru’s immense popularity among students is its established status as India’s top IT city. Multinational firms and of late, startups have taken a liking to the city and this draws a lot of students to study here and subsequently kick start their careers. The city boasts of a host of educational institutions in medicine, media, engineering, art, animation and myriad other fields. Many colleges and universities meet national standards of specialized education. The enjoyable weather that lasts nearly thorough out the year, along with its reputation for safety, has made Bengaluru a comfortable choice for thousands of students every year.

While Bengaluru is still developing and expanding in its infrastructure, it is considered one of the prettiest citites in India with beautiful buildings, museums and evergreen parks. Students can stay in affordable housing schemes and hostels and can travel across the city in easy-to-find and well-connected public transport services that include buses and metro trains.

There are many famous tourist destinations peppered through the city and around it for those who want to dive into historic and cultural heritage of Bengaluru. Its appeal as a thriving ecosystem for education and work, along with a vibrant student community and a wide range of restaurants and cafés, make Bangalore an irresistible and promising mélange of fun and learning.
