Designing a game is building a story but with its own set rules and then balancing the game to make it enjoyable and addictive by repeatedly playing, testing & making incremental changes. What does a game designer do?

A game designer wears many hats. You will be the guy who comes up with the idea or be part of the team that does. You need to know what is working in the market. The game designer has to be aware of all the aspects of game development cycle from ideation-prototyping-documentation-art-programming-testing. You will be working with artists, programmers, project managers, and maybe even other designers. It is on the game designers brief that art & code are built. A Game designer has to be aware of cultural & religious sensibilities when creating his design. These games are made for the people and it is important that it isn’t offensive to anyone. The game takes the shape that, you give it. But most importantly for the game to be called success it must sell well & make money.

When can you start?

This is the best part; there is actually no age limit. Games need to be designed for all age groups and whether you are 18 or 50, your ability to do that is all that counts. And passion. It takes a combination of passion and skill to make dreams come true after all.

Do you need to study it?

The good news is that since the field is pretty new, there are no determined paths that need to be followed. But we do recommend studying. We have already covered the wide range of topics you need to be aware of before you get into game designing and a course will definitely give you a good place to start.
