What questions should I ask about an institution before choosing one?

Choosing the right institution for your course can be a daunting decision. It is always good to thoroughly research an institution’s standing before making a one. Some of the questions you can ask the institution directly to find out more about them are:

  • Who is the faculty? What is their experience in the industry and in teaching?
  • Does the institute use the latest technology?
  • What infrastructure does the institute have to support the course? Are the labs and classrooms equipped with the latest equipment?
  • Can it help with placements?

You can also ask if it is possible to speak to some of their alumni or visit their campus if you are still not convinced that it is the right institution for you.

SOUND ENGINEERING

What is sound engineering?

Sound engineering involves the technical and creative processes of recording music and sound. Sound engineers do this by mixing and manipulating the electronic effects of sound and reproducing it. The music or sound is captured with the help of microphones, recorders or recording software and then edited and mixed as required. Sound engineers have immense scope in fields like film and television, radio, music studios, concert venues, computer games and theatres.

Can I apply for this course after class 10th?

No. The eligibility criterion for this course is the successful completion of class 12th/high school/equivalent.

Do I need a science/musical background to do this course?

No, you do not need a science background to do this course. Apart from completing your class 12th, you also need to have an avid interest in music (and sound, in general). Our course is designed to train music engineers and producers of different genres. We do not teach music and hence it does not matter what musical background you have.

What is the strength of a batch?

The number of students in each batch depends on the course, the city and the number of enrolments we are accepting for that year according to the availability of our studio facilities and faculty recommendations.

What degrees/certification do you offer for your sound engineering courses?

We offer both degree and diploma courses. Ideally, if a student is in 12th or has completed 12th, he/she can apply for the degree course. If the student is in his/her final year of graduation or is a graduate, the Diploma course is the way to go. We also offer a Certificate Program in Live Soundwhich is a three week programme for people who are specifically interested in Live Sound.

What sets Seamedu apart from other institutions offering sound engineering courses?

Why are the fees so high? Do you provide educational loans?

Sound engineering requires high-end equipment and infrastructure. The course fee not only covers these but also ensures that you are taught by some of the most experienced professionals in the field today. We do not provide educational loans ourselves but we are happy to assist you with any documentation you may require from us.

Do you teach how to play musical instruments as a part of the sound engineering course?

No. This is a sound engineering course and teaches various aspects of that. Music training (vocal or instrumental) is not part of this program.

Does your college have any branches?

You get industry exposure with workshops, high quality international standard recording studios, Pro Tools & Logic Pro certifications included in the course.

What software do you cover in the course? Are there any other software programs apart from these?

Our courses teach you how to use Pro Tools, Nuendo, Ableton Live and Logic Pro. There is, naturally, other software in the market that is used for sound engineering. However, the ones mentioned above are definitely the most popular and are used in most of the top studios worldwide.

What is the duration of the course?

The degree course is three years, the diploma is a one year course, while the Certificate Program in Live Sound is a three week course.

I do not have much knowledge about music nor do I know how to play any instrument, can I still do this course?

Our course is designed to train sound engineers and producers of different genres. We do not teach music and hence it does not matter what musical background you have. You should ideally have an avid interest in music and have at least 2 years of experience in music, DJing or music production.

What are the career opportunities after doing this course?

Sound engineering offers a wide variety of careers. Sound engineers have immense scope in fields like film and television, radio, music studios, concert venues, computer games and theatre, depending on your interests and skill-sets.

Can I continue to use Seamedu’s facilities after finishing my course?

Yes. You will have to go through a formal application process in order to do so.

For sound engineering, there is a one year course and also a three year course. Which is the best option?

It depends on what you want to do, how much time you have or how much time you want to be study0ing for, what you want to be able to gain in terms of education and experience from the course. FILM MAKING

Why film Making?

Film Making is a collaborative profession which requires the right skills, techniques and aesthetics and a passion for storytelling. Candidates from any stream can apply themselves in this field and pursue a highly satisfying career and high-income opportunities in this field. The art of Film Making calls for a highly creative and professional learning environment, and that is exactly what you get at Seamedu.

I have no film experience. Is this program is for me?

Yes, the institute’s course structure is designed in such a way that any individual with little or no film making experience can opt for the program.

What are the digital editing software students use to edit their films?

Students enrolled in Seamedu’s Film Making course will have hands-on experience on Apple Final Cut Pro, Avid, and Adobe Premiere. Students who pursue specialization in editing will also learn how to use other postproduction software such as Adobe after Effects, Photoshop, and Soundtrack Pro.

How much access will I have to equipment?

The institute maintains the best ratio of equipment for students to their practical’s or project. Depending on the program, students check out their camera and lighting packages on a daily basis, for weekend shoots, or for one and two weeks on longer productions. The editing lab is open till late night for students.

Does Seamedu provide hands-on training to the students? Will I get any practical experience in making films?

All classes at the Seamedu institute are designed with a practical approach. We believe in the concept of ‘learning by doing’. Our students shoot films on regular basis with professional equipment.The course structure is unique as we provide specialization from day one. We conduct workshops, seminars, industry visits and guest lectures by professionals on a regular basis. For our specialization courses, the practical-to-theory ratio is approximately 70:30 (percent).

Do I need to have a science background to do this course?

No, you do not need a background in science to do this course. It is most important that you have keen interest in films and appreciate the work that goes into making a film. Film Making has scope for people with a variety of interests.

Will I be able to make my own films once I graduate in the course?

The short answer to this question is yes. However, it is important to remember that making a film is a team effort. Our courses cover every phase of film making from conceptualising a film to postproduction along with the often overlooked business side of filmmaking. Our students learn both the theory as well as the practical aspects of filmmaking enabling them to hit the ground running in the industry upon completion of this course.

What are my options for further studies?

These courses prepare you for a range of careers in the film industry. You may start as an assistant in a particular aspect of the industry and work your way up. Graduates may go on to specialist in a particular aspect of Film Making that they are passionate about.

BROADCAST JOURNALISM

What is the scope of journalism as a career?

Journalism has numerous career choices and has huge scope to suit your capabilities and interests. Graduates of the broadcast journalism course can find careers as reporters, correspondents, anchors, bulletin producers, production executives, video journalists, cameramen, video editors, sub-editors and photojournalists, to name a few. The media industry is a rapidly growing one.There are more than 300 news channels 24 hours on air, and they need skilled and talented manpower.

What is anchoring?

Anchors are considered ‘the face’ ofa news channel.They anchor news bulletins, conduct panel discussions and interviews, and deal with breaking news. News anchors should have strong journalistic skills. Respected anchors inspire trust within their audiences and can often hold a great deal of influence over them. News anchors work from the studio or may travel to do on-site or live reports and feature stories as well. They can also work erratic hours to conduct research or to be at the scene of ground-breaking events to report them as they occur. News anchoring, news casting, special show anchoring, panel discussion anchoring and interview anchoring are some subsets of this career.

What is Reporting?

Reporting is basically gathering news and verifying it for telecast. Reporters have to compose and structure information in such a way that viewers will receive and understand it easily. Reporters analyse and deliver newsworthy stories through different forms of media so that the viewers can be aware of and understand important events as they occur. Correspondents research various stories, topics and may also interview people for a detailed analysis. Reporters can also specialize in a particular news beat such as Crime, Sports, Entertainment, Business, Politics, Science and Technology. A reporter’s job involves travelling to various places for news coverage.

In which types of media organisations do you provide placements?

Would you ever recommend Journalism as a career option to a young individual?

PHOTOGRAPHY

Do I need to have a science background to do this course?

No. You do not need a background in science to do this course. All you need is a 10+2 from any stream and your own DSLR (with basic lenses) along with aneager interest in photography and willingness to learn!

Is photography a viable career option?

Photography is becoming a highly popular career option these days since it is a rewarding profession that also provides immense creative satisfaction. One can be employed as an in-house photographer or freelancer for specialized jobs like fashion and glamour photography, portrait photography, industrial photography, e-commerce photography, architectural and commercial photography, and wedding photography. You can also work as a professional image editor, which is a very high-paying job and there is a lot of demand for professionals in the market.Other specialization areas in photography include nature and wildlife photography, travel photography, etc. There is also a huge scope to be employed on the editorial team for leading magazines, newspapers, television channels, journals, and production houses.

What is necessary for a successful career in photography?

The only way to be successful is to have talent and motivation. You can have all the education in the world but if you don’t have anything coming from inside, you won’t be successful. Of course, a professional course in photography will definitely help you hone your skills and step into the massive world of photography.

What are the big differences between a bachelors and a diploma in photography?

The bachelor’s course is a 3 year degree course that covers a vast variety of topics allowing you more scope for specialisation in a particular form of photography and offers an in-depth view of the topic while the diploma is a one year course focusing on fewer topics.

Do I need to have a background in photography to do this course?

What software will I learn to use to edit photographs?

You will learn to use Photoshop and Lightroom as a part of these courses.

VFX AND ANIMATION

Will I be able to do this course if I do not have any knowledge of drawing?

Yes, you can. We cover even the basics of drawing and so do not require you to have any prior knowledge of drawing.

Is there scope for a career in VFX and Animation in India

The VFX industry in India is big and is growing exponentially every day. In fact, Indian studios are now acquiring studios in Hollywood and setting up facilities across the world. As with any growing industry, there are new jobs to be had in the VFX field in India, careers to be made and some serious competition!

What software will I learn to use as a part of this course?

The main software you will be using as a part of this course is Photoshop, MonkyJam, Aftereffects, Autodesk Maya, Nuke and Matchmover. You will also use other software like Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint as a part of the course.

What is the importance of VFX in Animation?

Visual effects are mostly focused on the augmentation or modification of live action but visual effects artists and tools are also used for: Video games, Pre-visualization, 2D to 3D conversion, Special venues and multimedia (in addition of course to films, television and commercials). It is also used in computer graphics animated films (Pixar, DreamWorks, Sony Animation, etc.), mostly to give a more realistic aspect to the animation. With Animation advancing into an almost life-like era VFX is the perfect way to go about it.

Is it a good idea to do an animation course immediately after my 12th standard?

Doing an animation course is the right thing if you want to pursue a career in animation. Seamedu’s course begins with the basics and goes on to teach you more advanced techniques .  Our facilities allow our students to take the theory from the classroom and apply it in actually creating an animation.

GAME DESIGN

Which software will students learn to use?

Students will get professional training on Autodesk-Maya, Adobe-Photoshop, sculpting tool, Unity Game Engine.

What platforms will I learn to design games for?

We teach you how to design games for PC, android and iOS. Skills you learn during this course will be transferable to other platforms as well.

What is the difference between game design and game art

Game art is everything you see in the game: icons, buttons, characters, props, sets, colour, and pictures for example Game design is both an art and a science. It involves applying a sense of aesthetics and design to create a game. It includes everything from concept art to scripting the game and working with game engines to elicit required results from the finished games.

Will I be able to make a game on my own after this course?

No. You will be able to conceptualise the entire game including game play and working with game engines but you will still need a programmer. Besides working as a part of a team is fun!

What is the salary a new graduate can expect with a degree in Game Design?

Salaries vary from company to company but a new graduate can expect a minimum salary of Rs. 10,000 to 15,000 a month.

GAME PROGRAMING

What is the eligibility for this course? Is a science background necessary?

You do not need a science background for this course but you need to have had mathematics and physics as subjects in your class 12th. Alternatively, you could also have a Diploma in Computer Engineering, Diploma in Computer Application, and Diploma in Computer Applications and Programming.

What kind of games will I be able to program after doing this course?

You can sample some of the kinds of games you will be able to program by checking our student work. The BCA Game Development course involves all technical aspects involved in making a game. The course provides you with a wide array of skills and is not always entirely book oriented. With a 70% focus on practical learning and a strong foundation, the students will be able to make a wide range of 2D, 3D, educational and multiplayer games.

What criteria do I need to fulfill to take this course?

You need to have completed your 12th standard (or equivalent) to enrol for this course. You also need to have a passion for games. In fact, this is one course where we say, the more games you’ve played, the better!

What software will I learn to use as a part of this course?

We teach Unity3D, Cocos2D and Unreal game engines along with languages like C# & C++ with Visual studio.

Will I be able to make games individually after this course?

No. Games are a team effort and you will need at least one artist depending on the kind of game you are planning to make.

Should I learn game design or game programming?

It really depends on what you are interested in. Game design is an art and will suit you if you have an artistic mind set while if you love maths and physics the game programming course is better.

BACHELOR OF COMPUTER APPLICATION
(GAME AND MOBILE SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT)

What software will be taught as part of this course?

This course will include instruction on various software that will be pertinent to game development and mobile software development. This includes C#, C++, Java, and Objective C.

What kind of apps will I learn to make?

There are different kinds of apps on the market today – from fitness apps to ones that show the news. We will give you a strong foundation in how to build apps right from square one enabling you to develop any form of mobile application.

What platforms will I learn to develop apps for?

Today’s digitally savvy consumers expect nothing but the best. Many apps are developed for both Android and iOS systems. We train our students to excel in both platforms broadening the scope of job opportunities and placements for you.

Will this course teach me to develop only computer games or mobile games as well?

Our Game and Mobile Software Development course will provide students with all the requisite skills, knowledge, and technical know-how to develop both computer games and mobile games by the end of the three-year program.

Do I need to have an IT or science background to enrol in this course?

It is not necessary to have a science or IT background to participate in this program. However, mathematics must have been part of your 12 thstandard coursework. That being said, having a working proficiency of computers and IT will definitely simplify the course work for you as a student.

Can I work as a software engineer as well after this course?

Yes you can. Developing apps requires developing software as well. The aim of this course is to transform you into a programmer who can develop different types of apps, which is one of the most in-demand forms of software development available in India.
