The Situation of Photography Post COVID

Before starting the article, I would like to mention me: I have been into photography for almost 14 years now. Like every photographer of my era who gave priorities to his passion for arts and photography, I was one of them. I started my career by shooting portfolios and then shooting products for E-Commerce sites which were also quite new at that time. Furthermore, I entered the filming of TV commercials. So, my overall journey is quite satisfying and smooth.

The reason for writing this article is to make a comparison between PRE & POST COVID situation in the overall photography industry and its future. Though it’s just not only our industry, the current lockdown impacted all kinds of industries as well. My main focus is on highlighting the Photography Industry and its possible future opportunities.

As we all know, the world we leave today is interdependent on each other, it’s similar like without raw material, manufacturing any product is impossible. So, all kinds of business, services are dependent on each other. In other words, shutting down completely a business will break the chain of economics and destroy the entire modern business ecosystem.

Today, for example, if all the restaurants stop functioning or close suddenly, it will impact all kinds of business, starting from small scale industries or any Production Companies. The reason is the complex supply chain interlink among the modern economy. Like sudden disappearing of any living species causes damage or disrupts the life cycle, death of an existing business or industry will cause the failure of all over the world economy.

Now, we can feel relaxed and ensure that our photography industry is also not an exception and other businesses will push us for their own survival. As a professional, I have already started seeing the results, post lockdown all have noticed the importance of online selling their product. Now every small or big business entity gives importance to selling online. They are converting their simple portfolio websites into E-Com portals so that they can also use this alternate way of selling by seeing situations like lockdown. This is the big lesson learned by the business community. This helps the photography industry to grow and recover fast from the pandemic effect. This also shows that the photography industry will never be in denial since any business cannot survive without its promotion & advertisement.

During a lockdown when all other industries are shut, as a commercial photographer, I have received many E-Com projects from my existing as well as new clients that have wondered me and pushed me to write this article. This article and its major points are derived from the finding from the discussion between me and my clients. Hence, my final conclusion is — Photography will boom POST COVID, even more than before, because of the adoption of the new normal by the entire world. So, if you too are passionate about photography and want to make it your career then you should pursue a diploma in photography to gain the required skills and a sense of professionalism.
