Trends & Challenges in TV News Media – A Session by Mandar Phanse

27th August 2016: Acclaimed television journalist, anchor, producer and editor Mandar Phanse graced the Seamedu School of Pro-Expressionism campus in Pune to share his wisdom on the current trends and the most perplexing challenges in television news media today.

It was, as expected, a wonderful experience for young students from the Journalism department as they grabbed every available opportunity to ask the stellar guest lecturer wide-ranging questions about the industry. Having worked with biggies like NDTV, CNN, and Zee News in different capacities, it was obvious that Mandar’s unparalleled expertise in journalism would prove to be a great source of insights for aspirants.

The session began with Mandar introducing the students to the changing trends in television media and the seamless convergence of technology in it. Having several years of experience in the industry, Mandar left no stone unturned when it came to sharing anecdotes and real-life experiences with the young minds at Seamedu in order to give them a deeper understanding of various scenarios that they are likely to fact once they step into their professional careers. The Mandar wisdom trends session at Seamedu proved to be an invaluable learning experience for all.

Here’s a quick recap of the points he covered during the session:

  • Challenges in television news media
  • The importance of online media
  • How digital mediums are influencing other forms of traditional and new media
  • Anchoring
  • Reporting
  • Tips on conducting panel discussions
  • The evolving trends in television media

Apart from these pointers, students pulled out a string of queries that revolved around the opportunities in the field, various types of reporting beats, scriptwriting techniques, and the importance of deadlines in this time-sensitive industry. Mandar, of course, answered all such questions with admirable ease. Drawing from his personal and professional experiences helped him explain the challenges one faces during reporting and production much better than anyone else possibly could.

Currently serving as the Executive Editor at IBN Lokmat, www.bharat4india.com (India’s first rural online portal) is Mandar Phanse’s branchild. Seamedu School of Media is proud to associate with guest lecturers and industry professionals like Mandar who inspire young minds and help them set specific goals for their respective careers.

Ask the students who attended the session and they will tell you that it was a truly enlightening experience indeed!
