I have completed my Masters in Film Studies from Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 2015 and I’ve been teaching in various colleges in Bombay since the past 5 years. Overall I have 8 years of work experience which includes 3 years of working in the media industry.
Previously, I have worked as an Assistant Professor in a full time role at DeviprasadGoenka Management College of Media Studies (DGMCMS) teaching various subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate students from Oct 2015- Dec 2017.Along with teaching, I was also the Course Coordinator for Bachelor of Arts in Film, TV and New Media Production (BAFTNMP) handling the entire administrative work for this particular course.
After that I have worked as a Guest lecturer in various colleges across Mumbai which includes KC, K.P. Hinduja, Nationals, DGMC, ThadomalShahani Centre for Media and Communication(TSCMC) and conducted workshops at MIT, Pune and Wellingkar Institute, Mumbai.
My core subjects include Film Theory and Appreciation, Media and Culture, Film Studies, History of Non-Fiction Cinema ,Visual Communication, Research Techniques, Critical Thinking and Writing for Moving Images.
As I’ve been teaching Film for a few years, I’ve constantly felt the urge to explore the possibilities of the cinematic form and structure.
The need to develop a deeper understanding of art and the world in general, as well as the ability to articulate my thoughts and ideas through images and sounds keeps me going.
I have been very interested in topics/themes at the intersection of art, history, ethnography and cinema. Just to give you a sense of my present endeavour: I have been documenting lives of the Sindhi community in Ulhasnagar (a small town on the outskirts of Mumbai) exploring various cultural facets since May 2019. The focus is on the present condition of the community, exploring the sociological and cultural aspects like the local film industry, a pale imitation of Bollywood, the closeted Sufi culture that exists on the margins, and the local industries.
