Workshop on Basic Camera & Lighting Techniques for Students of Journalism Course- Amit Singh

The workshop focused on

• Gaining practical insights and handling the camera effectively, various shifts in the lenses
• Lighting the scene and how the lighting component can change the intensity of the scene
• Students used the equipment both indoors and outdoors ensuring versatility 
• With the two-day sessions, students were able to network and connect with industry professionals and gain insights

The course highlighted the shift in working styles and the way social media and mobile photography have taken over the landscape with digital tools and mediums. Through this workshop, the students were able to understand how the paradigm shift in technology has led to a blend of AI and traditional equipment. The two-day workshop was divided into day one of camera basics while day two focused on lighting techniques.

The timeline of the event:
Day 1: 23rd August 2023 - Camera Basics:

The event started post lunch at 2 p.m. with the speaker, Amit Singh conducting an ice-breaker activity with an interactive session covering different camera types, essential settings, and how to handle a camera effectively. Through the course of three hours, students got involved in understanding the art of composition, teaching students how to frame their shots for impactful visual storytelling. The session for day 1 ended with a Q&A session backed with a discussion related to all things light and camera techniques. 

Day 2: 24th August 2023 - Lighting Techniques

Day two of the event was a recap of the previous day's session along with a few practice shots taken by the students. On day two, the students covered the basics and intricacies of camera lighting techniques, both indoor and outdoor, and provided hands-on demonstrations of how to achieve optimal lighting for different situations. The class was able to simulate the lighting for both indoor and outdoor simulations. The session ended with the students learning how to use basic photo editing software as well as relevant techniques for journalism.

The outcome of the session resulted in students pursuing degree in Journalism having a solid foundation and gaining a comprehensive understanding of basic camera operation, enabling them to confidently handle different camera types and settings. The students composed shots and learned the skill of telling compelling visual stories.
