But everything boils down to the most important thing which is making the game “FUN.”

Get a Degree from a Video game-related college.

Having a degree from a college related to the video game industry always helps. One of the prime courses is a BCA in game development. The colleges usually have alumni and contacts from previously graduated students which can be one way to get into the industry. But Just having a degree is not enough. Making games is essentially about crafting an experience. It requires looking at your work critically and keep improving as long as you can.

Share your work on various forums

If you are passionate about making games, you are likely to spend a lot of time lurking around a lot of discussion forums and media platforms that specifically talk about Game Dev. You will be surprised to know how many professional game developers read such forums when you start posting your work. So it’s a perfect opportunity for you to get your work seen by professionals and set up few early connections in the industry which can potentially even lead to a job offer.

Build your own Indie Games/Prototypes

A lot of people ask how we will get the experience of making games when the studios won’t hire without prior experience. Well, make a game on your own, put it on forums get feedback, and gain experience. Most game dev tools like game engines and asset stores offer a lot of free content you can use for your game. There is no excuse for not having tools to make games. Many independent studios have carved their way into the industry by making their first game like this.

Get your 1st job as Game Tester

Getting the job as a game tester is the easiest one compared to the other positions available in the game industry. It requires no prior degree or any kind of training. Often Game testers move into a better position in the companies so you will have many vacancies available as well. Once you enter the industry as a tester, it’s easier to learn and grow as you are interacting with the designers, artists, and programmers.

Document your work.

If you really enjoy the process of making games, start writing about it. It can be as simple as an online blog to running a gaming forum where you discuss a lot of game-dev-related topics. Your blogs might get noticed by famous gaming websites and open a path for you to enter the game-dev field.

Participate in game jams

There are many Game jams and Game dev days organized on the national and international levels. If you haven’t noticed many indie games are actually inspired by the game jam prototypes that those developers had come up with. Besides after participating in a game jam you straight away can add the project to your portfolio and that increases your credit when you apply for a job in a studio you desire

Consistency and not giving up

Like any other career, path consistency is a way to go. Consistently improving your skillset is very important. As mentioned earlier getting a job in the game industry is not going to be easy.
