Of Trials & Trepidation but in the end, it was worth it!

I am Chukka Hari, the writer, and director of the Music Video Vision- Oru Murai Thaan. Here is my analysis and report of the studio production that took place over the last six months.

We started the project Vision (Oru Murai Thaan) in the month of September. The pre-production was challenging initially but towards the end it all came together. The pre-production was ready and everything was set to go. The shoot got delayed by three hours due to some technical issues. Everyone from my team was panicking. We didn’t know whether we’ll be able to finish taking all the shots planned. We didn’t know whether we’ll be able to finish taking all the shots planned. Then I had to make a difficult decision to cancel the story part of the music video and focus on the band coverage. But here lies the real struggle- I wasn’t sure how my team members would react to this. To my relief, not only my team members but also the faculty respected my decision and pushed me to take my own call. And that’s not the end!

After finishing the shoot, the faculty offered me a choice of shooting the story part with the resources we have, instead of renting professional gear. It was an opportunity I didn’t want to miss at any cost . I really felt very happy and started to prepare for the shoot. The challenge was to arrange for everything within a short time. As we put our heads together the story was finalized, casting done, rehearsals had begun and everything had picked up momentum. All of this preparation helped me sail through the day of the shoot smoothly. There were no obstacles and everything was shot well in time.

Coming to my team members, especially my cinematographer Mr. Adithya Bhat- he is the only Cinematographer apart from Bhargav who was simultaneously working on our Documentary project as a Director. He was also the DOP for Bhargav’s music video/ Though he was quite tense, he managed to pull this project off. I would appreciate his courage to handle such huge projects consecutively. And also, I would like to thank Bhargav for helping me right from the beginning though he was at the same time immersed in his own project. Lastly, I would like to thank Mr. Ashlay. He composed a really wonderful song and gave his best. He was very cooperative during the day of the shoot and ensured his team also worked with him effortlessly.

Our Head of the Department, Mr. Dinesh and our Guest Faculty Mr. Suraj sir supported and pushed us beyond our capabilities, which compelled me to take on the challenges. Both of them guided us from the Writing, Direction & Cinematography aspect. We also got support from the Sound faculty.

In both the studio production projects we made mistakes and learnt from those mistakes. It drained our energy but gave us a gift pack of confidence, knowledge and ability to handle tough situations. However, we enjoyed the making process of project Vision (Oru Murai Thaan).
