Artificial Intelligence a diligent aid to Journalism

With the ever-increasing integration of Cortana, Siri, and OK GOOGLE in our lives, we are getting comfortable with the inclusion of artificial intelligence (AI) as our aid. Artificial intelligence is the capacity of computers/machines to perform cognitive functions like learning, reasoning, perceiving, problem-solving etc. The basic logic behind these machines’ working is acquiring knowledge by finding out patterns in data provided to these algorithms as input. These patterns blend to result in knowledge that capacitates the machines to have an intellect. The more the quantity of input data, the more accurate the artificial intelligence machines’ output. As Yuval Noah Harari writes in his renowned book Sapiens, the cognitive revolution is the prime reason why sapiens thrived as superiors from other socializing animals. The cognitive revolution was the sole reason for the formation of humongous thriving human communities. This patent function of human beings was and is being bestowed upon these machines to make them our companions in all walks of our lives, just like Jarvis and Iron man (Tony Stark) of the famous comics, The Marvel Universe. In the 21st century, artificial intelligence has found its way into functions like speech recognition, image recognition, real-time recommendations, stock trading, household robots, journalism and whatnot!

Your Path to a Career in Media Marketing - Seamedu Blog

The way businesses market their products is a constantly evolving process. Time waits for no one, and the ebbs and flows of industry and business change shape as time progresses. Today, rarely are markets solely product-led. There was a time when manufacturers and businessmen could sit back and let the quality of their products do the talking, but nowadays that is just not enough. When customer outreach programs are the norm, competition is fierce and cut-throat, and the internet rules the roost, it isn’t just what you sell but how you sell it that can make or break the success of a company. An integral part of any marketing mix is ‘promotion,’ and marketing communication forms an important cog in the ‘promotion’ wheel. The goalposts have shifted from making a sale to establishing a long-term connection with the consumer, and the rules of engagement have been re-written as well. New marketing avenues have opened up, particularly in the digital world. All of this has led to birth of marketing communication management. This is a vocation that forms the lynchpin of any firm’s communication strategy, and one that is slowly proving its importance and how it is fundamental to growth and development of a business.

Multimedia Journalism – The evolution of journalism in the 21st century

Progress and development have been the hallmark of human existence since our species came into being. From discovering fire and building the humble wheel, to steam engines and voyages exploring the deepest recesses of our galaxy, humanity has accomplished a lot since its inception. You cannot stop the steady march of technology, and this progression has also been reflected in the media industry. The industrial revolution saw printing presses and the newspaper industry flourish. Then radio sets made their way into the mainstream and news was dispensed over the airwaves. Eventually, television arrived, and TV killed the radio star, becoming the new king of news distribution. The latest, and probably the biggest, game changer of the lot though is the advent of the internet and the myriad possibilities it presents. This shift has marked a significant point in the evolution of journalism, transforming how stories are reported, consumed, and shared on a global scale.

The Many Faces of Broadcast Journalism

Gone are the days when there used to be a prime time news bulletin and people used to adjust their schedule and reach home to watch 7 pm or 9 pm bulletin. Today, animated discussions and debates have taken the place of the much-loved prime time bulletin. There are four, six, eight or sometimes even more windows on a single screen and all the guests are shouting at the same time. It’s quite disorienting, to be honest, since the viewers do not understand where to look and whom to listen to.Thanks to mobile phones and stellar news apps, television does not always need to give news. News channels are increasingly becoming ‘views’ channels. In the battle for the highest TRPs, what viewers see on the screen is only chaos. The presenter already has set some agenda, sticks to it, and starts behaving like a ringmaster. So we have a journalist-cum-anchor-cum-expert-cum-editor…all rolled into one.

Where Can a Course in Journalism and Training in Anchoring Take you?

Last year, an anchor was sacked at Doordarshan. Any guesses why?She made a mistake when she was on air. This was around the time that the Chinese president Xi Jinping visited our lovely country and she had to tell the country about it. Only she mistook the ‘Xi’ for the roman number XI and called the president Eleven Jinping. That was the end of her career at Doordarshan.
